Welcome to Crown Green Bowls Blog

Crown Green Bowls is a sport that has been played for many years and still attracts new players every single year. Not so many years ago the game was classed as a sport played by 'old men' - and to some extent that would have been a fair assessment. However over the last 20 years the game has attracted a large following amongst the younger generation who are having a radical effect on the game.

So what is the game all about? Well that is the purpose of this blog. I aim to discuss the fundamentals of the game to educate anyone thinking of taking up this great sport.

And in case you were wondering - I started playing at the age of 14 - I am now nearing 40 and still play on a regular basis!

Crown Green Bowls and Flat Green Bowls - Are they Different?

Whenever I tell people that I play Crown Green Bowls I invariably receive one of the following replies;
  • Oh yes - I watched that Indoor Bowls Tournament on TV recently
  • Do you wear those all white outfits?
  • I played that on holiday when I went to Weymouth
All of these replies infuriate me since they all refer to what I would call Flat Green Bowls or Rink Bowls as it is sometimes known.

So what is the difference between Crown Green and Flat Green Bowls then?

There are actually quite a few differences and in the next few posts I will endeavour to explain them all to you. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section if you are unsure about anything and I will do my best to clarify things for you.
